Denville @ American Flag Rugby Festival
Saturday, 07/25/09
We had a wonderful season and final tournament. I want to thank all the coaches, referees, parents and players for making history this year.
Guinness Book of Records
I will let you know our status of our record attempt with the Guinness Book of Records. We played 140 games on 17 pitches with 832 players. This was quite a feat.
Here are some Highlights of the games.
Eagle Division Amanda Black guided the D3 Eagles to a 2-1 record in the festival. Scoring were:
Troy Denise 5 tries Anthony Errante 2 tries 4 conversions Tess Feury 2 tries Tom Vanier 1 try 3 conversions Austin Cuadra, Justin Fusco, Tim Ford, Giulla, Ally, Dustin, try each
Hawk Division Denville 39 Parsippany 36 Jeremy Alexander, Joseph Hook, Brandon Delisanti, Kate Ford, Max Berry - 1 try each Alex Jones - 2 tries Joseph Hook kicked 2 conversions
Denville 41 Byram 22 Jeremy Alexander, Nick Welilsky, Max Berry - 1 try each Brett Decker, Kate Ford - 2 tries each Joseph Hook kicked 3 conversions
Denville 60 Montville 5 This was a real try fest, our kids played fantastically and a great way to finish the season Brett Decker, Kate Ford- 1 try each Jeremy Alexander, Nick Welilsky - 2 tries each Joseph Hook, Alex Jones - 3 tries each
Denville 1 (Hawks) Won their first game against Black River 39 - 29 and lost the second game to Long Valley 31 - 28.
Falcon Divison
We had two full sides for the Falcons on Saturday and even thought it was later than we hoped, by the second match we even had substitutes for each team. We were evenly divided by age and talent and we had two solid teams that played extremely well in the hot and humid conditions, with both team putting up plenty of tries as well as some tremendous defense. Overall I think we ended up 5-1 for the day, but we don’t determine success by the number of points but rather by the progress from the first day to the last, which was huge. All year we worked on passing the ball, taking it at pace, and teamwork. And it was great to see all three applied during the festival because it made the difference on at least four or five occasions between scoring and having our flags grabbed.
It was great to see the ball passed down the line w/o having had our flag pulled to make the pass, having the runner take it at speed and everyone following the play in pursuit. And when one team was playing the other team was there cheering them on. We came a long way from week one, (especially the first year players) and it was a great finish to a great season.
